After being certified according to swissPSO® for the fifth time, we have just become the first print shop in Switzerland to also be certified according to swissPSD®. We are very pleased with this success and would like to thank Ugra, the Swiss competence center for printing and media technology, for the audit.
First certification for digital printing in Switzerland
The swissPSD® certification, which was successfully carried out for the first time in Switzerland, stands for standardized digital printing according to ISO/TS 15311. swissPSO® certification based on the International Standard ISO 12647-2 for offset printing has been established in the printing industry for many years. However, digital printing is becoming more and more important both technologically and economically and is gaining a larger share of the market in the short and medium run segments. As a result, almost all print shops today also offer complementary products that are produced using a digital printing process.
The further development of digital printing processes over the past decade shows that digital printing has established itself and is technologically indispensable. Today, advertisers and print buyers order their communication solutions in a web-based store on a just-in-time basis. The quality of digitally produced printed matter has converged to the point where it is difficult to distinguish from offset printing, even by experts. A color match between digital and offset printing that is accepted by customers can be achieved to a large extent with the help of modern color management solutions and process adjustments. As a result, a lot of work has also been done in the standards committees of ISO/TC 130.
The Process Standard Digital Printing (PSD) developed for this purpose has been further developed into an internationally valid technical specification. In the ISO/TS 15311 series of standards, the various requirements for digital production printing have been standardized as a technical specification. The swissPSD® certification supplements the swissPSO® certification of Ugra for printing and media companies, which has existed for many years.
The various modules test, for example, whether the light is calibrated for visual color checks, whether the measured values comply with ISO standards over a longer period of time, and how the checking processes are monitored and documented. The results of the color checks are verified with follow-up measurements in the laboratory. Color accuracy in digital printing and the execution of finishing steps such as cutting, stitching and folding were also checked.
Combined audit with swissPSO
We were audited and certified by Ugra for the fifth time in accordance with the Process Standard Offset (PSO) and the underlying ugraCert® swissPSO® certification system. This time, the first Swiss-wide certification according to swissPSD® also took place. Both certifications were carried out as a combined audit. The audit was carried out as a presence audit according to the provided audit plan and on the basis of the above mentioned Ugra certification systems with the following result:
